STATUS

Western Australia is free of Ovine Johnes Disease (OJD)  (See notes below)

Australia is free of Scrapie.

Glenlea is Brucellosis Accredited Free (Ovac. # 273).

Footrot has never been detected in the Glenlea Flock.

All purchased animals have come from studs of equal disease status.

All semen (including non-Australian) used must meet Australian disease control standards.

BSE Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy) - Australia is free of this disease.

 

Foot and Mouth Disease - Australia is free of this disease.

 

Australia is free of Maedi-visna (OPP).

CONTROL

Annual 6 in 1 Glanvac plus Selenium & Vit.B for all sheep.
This is done prior to lambing ensuring cover for lambs in 1st 6 weeks of  life.
Lambs are all given follow up at 6 weeks of age and again 4 weeks later as recommended.

Scabby mouth
Lambs are treated at time of 2nd Glanvac vaccination.

Fly control
Sheep are shorn in Spring and are crutched in Autumn

Worm burden monitoring
Weaners are regularly tested for worm burdens and resistance.They are treated accordingly.
All other sheep are treated depending on seasonal requirements.
Sheep are treated with alternating white and clear drenches where possible.

Worm control
Animals are drenched, emptied and placed into fresh paddocks.
Paddock rotation also helps control uptake of larvae.

Pinkeye
Animals found to have symptoms are immediately removed from the mob and treated in isolation.

White muscle disease (deficiency)
All sheep are given selenium and cobalt bullets at one year of age.
Prior to this minerals are always readily available or in the pellets they are fed at weaning.

Erysipelas
To control arthritis in young lambs we use Eryvac at the same time as they receive the Glanvac vaccination.

Nutrition is obviously subject to seasonal requirements. However, it is our intention to ensure no animal is stressed as a result of lack of nutrition as this will only affect its performance in the long run.
Minerals in the form of Rumevite sheep blocks are provided all year around to all animals.

  • Ewes are supplemented with lupins in the lead up to and during mating.(as recommended by Genstock) Then again prior to lambing.

  • Rams are supplemented with lupins in the lead up to mating ensuring maximum fertility and condensed lambing.

  • Weaners are fed into the summer months ensuring continued growth.

  • Hoggets are given Cobalt and Selenium bullets and hay if required.

Paddocks are fertilized (split applications) according to CSBP recommendations for maximum returns, ensuring plant material is of best possible nutritional quality.
