Our meticulous record keeping offers proof of an individual animal’s performance in the form of raw data (GOLD status data quality which is the highest achievable standard).
This begins the day a lamb is born with records of it's birth weight (BWT), Dam, and number of siblings (twins, triplets etc.) Even lambs born dead are weighed and recorded.
If animals are exposed to different treatment e.g. feed supplements, they are placed in different groups.
Weights are available at the following ages:
Weaning weights at approx. 90 to 100 days(WWT)
Early post weaning weights (Early PWWT) at approx. 185 to 190 days and they are scanned (EMD & FAT) at the same time.
They are again weighed at Late post weaning(Late PWWT) when the animals are approx. 270 to 275 days.
Animals are then weighed as yearlings at between 315 to 420 days of age (YWT).
Lastly, they are weighed as hoggets at 14 to 18 months of age.
Pedigrees including four generations of relatives are available with every stud animal sold. All Glenlea sheep are pure bred Suffolk. Whilst all care is taken to provide accurate pedigrees it must be understood that there is always the faint possibility that the lamb found with a ewe at dawn is not actually hers but one she has acquired during the night. If there is ever any doubt a note is made next to the tag number of the animal.
When the stud uses new American genetics, animals used are tested for Spider Syndrome.
Upon request and at purchasers expense stud rams sold can be subjected to a rigorous vet check prior to removal from the farm or sale venue. This involves a physical examination including general health and reproductive organs as well as a management check list. A fertility check can also be arranged at purchaser’s request.
Semen sold is provided with an assessment by the vet responsible for its collection upon request. This covers the following:
Motility
Morphology
Concentration
Date of collection
Method of collection
Health test results
